Winter Motorcycle Riding Tips

Article by Dick Zinia

Cold weather is spreading across the country and that causes many motorcycle riders to put the bike up for the winter. But a growing group of motorcycle riders now choose to ride year long despite the weather conditions. With the proper motorcycle leather outerwear and accessories – including stylish ladies motorcycle jackets, riders of both sexes can enjoy comfortable riding on all but the coldest days!

Motorcycle safety during the winter months and inclement weather is particularly important. Visibilities are decreased, days are shorter and nights often darker than normal and your visibility to other drivers is not as apparent as it is during other months of the year. In addition, your ability to see your surroundings may be decreased due to rain or snow on your motorcycle visor or glasses. Consider investing in some type of anti-fog glasses or use RainX or a similar product to make the most of your ability to see the highway.

Wearing multiple layers of clothing is important to staying warm on your bike during winter rides. Invest in high quality thermal wear, including turtleneck sweaters and UnderArmor or similar inner clothing. Coupling these items with Fieldsheer Motorcycle Jackets will keep you warm on the worst weather days.

Today’s high quality black leather motorcycle jackets can be purchased with removable inner liners that allow you to dress up when the weather is cold and dress down when things warm up a bit. Using a jacket with a removable liner makes for the maximum in versatility.

No matter what jacket you choose, remember that it should be form fitting in order to provide the best safety in the event of an accident. The traditional black leather motorcycle jacket provides much more warmth – and safety – than lighter weight mess jackets.

Motorcycle gloves and motorcycle boots provide both warmth and safety from the elements and from accidents. Heated gloves are even an option for today’s well outfitted motorcycle rider. These motorcycle gloves are even thermostatically controlled.

Remember to choose the best motorcycle boots for winter riding. They will provide warmth and protection. Don’t forget to treat the boots with a good waterproof coating for the best protection and to make them last longer.
Motorcycle Leather Pants
The coldest days require leather motorcycle pants. You will be both warm and in style while being protected at the same time. Choose the thick leather pants by quality manufacturers such as Fieldsheer.

Taking reasonable precautions will allow you to ride your motorcycle through most of the winter and to enjoy cycling on all but the coldest days. In fact, it’s quite a thrill to experience the cold wind blowing across your face as you ride your motorcycle on a blustery winter day!

Happy riding!

Motorcycle Riding Tips

Article by Tyler Powers

Copyright 2006 Tyler Powers

We all have enough “In memory of…” patches on our vest and do not wish to add any more. So here are 11 motorcycle riding tips to remind us of the things that can keep us in one piece and out of the hospital.

· If you are a novice, sign up for and attend a Motorcycle Safety Foundation course. Not only will this course teach you lots of the things that will help keep you safe but your motorcycle insurance will probably be slightly lower as well – and who doesn’t want to save on insurance, especially when riding in states with Helmet Optional laws that require large bodily injury coverage to enjoy the right for those who ride to decide.

· Remind yourself where your suicide or kill switch is located. This switch, if you realize you are going to have to drop the bike, can save you from having your own motorcycle run over you causing injury.

· If you are just learning to ride and live in a highly populated area, have an experienced rider take you and your bike into an area with little or no traffic. A parking lot of a closed business works very well. Neighborhood streets can cause the residents to complain. Ride in this controlled environment until you feel completely in control of the vehicle. Learn how to stop and start easily and smoothly. Learn how long it takes to stop safely – it isn’t the same as stopping a car.

· First-time street riders should choose a time of day when the traffic is at a low. Jumping into rush hour traffic can easily lead to an accident on your very first outing. Select a route that takes you into very low traffic zones such as through neighborhoods, scenic routes and avoid at all cost getting on a freeway until you gain quite a lot of experience.

· Never, ever become aggressive toward a car or truck driver. Those cars win every single time in a road rage situation. They are bigger, heavier and have a lot more power. If someone tailgates you, tap your brake lights a few times and if they don’t back off, change lanes or give them the road by pulling off to the side

· We all know black is the only cool biker color, right? Well, if you are going to be riding at night in a poorly light area, it is much more important to be seen than to be cool, no matter what your friends say! Be sure your lights are bright and clean for maximum visibility but also consider placing reflective tape on the back of your helmet (if you use one) and maybe a glow in the dark patch on your back.

· Never trust cages. Car drivers somehow, no matter how loud or how rowdy bikers can be, manage to simply not see us! The blind spot in most cars is sufficiently large for a motorcycle to be completely hidden from view. But other cage drivers simply don’t seem to look for us. Unless, of course, they son, daughter, husband or wife happens to ride; unfortunately, we can’t tell who those people are and have to be doubly aware of other vehicles than when driving a car.

· Never assume that just because there is no turn signal on that car that it isn’t going to turn right in front of you. No matter how many other drivers don’t use turn signals, ALWAYS use yours and, if you have a passenger during daylight, hand signals can be an extra preventative measure.

· You know those trucker bumper stickers that say “If you can’t see my mirrors, I can’t see you”? Well, use this same common sense when riding. If you can’t see the driver’s face in the rear view mirror of the vehicle in front of you, chances are they can’t see you at all. Stay out of blind spots at all times.

· Once you become an experienced rider, when riding on city streets, always allow room for other people’s errors. An added safety tip is that you should remain aware of where you would choose to put the scoot down if the need arose. If you get in trouble and have any time at all, select where to lay the motorcycle instead of allowing traffic or the bike to determine that for you. If you can elect to place the bike on the ground, allowing it to move out from between your legs at low speed, you will experience much less road rash than allowing momentum to take you with the motorcycle.

· Novice riders should never carry passengers. That comes later with more road experience. The movements of a rider can cause a situation where you can easily lose control, especially at very low speeds.

Above all, plan for safety so you will come home safely to ride again another day. Road rash and accidents costing hundreds of thousands in medical bills are all too common. Be defensive and be aware to avoid losing your bike – or worse, your life.

Motorcycle Riding Tips – Limited-Space Maneuvers

Article by Beau Wiley

With Spring fast approaching I thought it would be a good idea to start publishing a few motorcycle riding tips that you can practice once you dust off your bike and get it ready for Daytona Bike week or your first spring ride. One thing I hear from a lot of motorcyclists is that they have been riding for some many years and do not need to practice any riding skills. This is just an ignorant statement to make and often fueled by ego and pride. I have seen veteran riders of twenty years; do the stupidest things on a motorcycle. Sure they have been riding for twenty years, but have they truly ever learned to really ride correctly with skill and confidence. Sure some have the natural motor skills to perform well on a motorcycle but these refresher tips are there to make you more competent on your motorcycle while also boosting your ego since others will be impressed by your riding skills. Honest, you will be amazed how people notice a good competent rider.

This lesson will discuss Limited-space maneuvers. Now you may think, what? If I am going slow in a parking lot or driveway, why do I need to practice these types of motorcycle riding maneuvers? While not as dangerous as intersections or other road hazards, limited-space maneuvers, like parking areas, can be quite a challenge. Practice turning at low speeds, and do not forget to use the counterweight technique to help balance your motorcycle at slow speeds. This means to put more pressure on the outmost footrest, leaning the upper body outward opposite the turn. You can also move off the center of the seat, opposite from the turn, to improve balance and turning capability.

The best-trained motorcyclists are Police Motormen. These motorcycle cops are trained to maneuver large police motorcycles at slow speeds in tight situations. Police Motormen practice doing U-turns within two marked parking spaces. Sounds easy right? Well it is not. Go out and try it one day. I guarantee it will take you 4 spaces or more to do a U-turn. Odds are some of you may even drop your bike. The trick is to use your clutch friction zone and rear brake to get the motorcycle to maneuver and handle at very slow speeds. By slow speeds I mean under 5MPH. Walking pace. Police need to do this all the time and they have the best riding techniques. The other key is to look where you want the motorcycle to go. If you look down while performing a tight figure eight or a U-turn, I guarantee you will go where you are looking – down.

I initially practiced these techniques and was amazed at how difficult it was to turn your motorcycle around by performing a U-turn while trying to keep the turn within two parking spaces. It took me several hours over a few days to get the hang of it. Next I added in figure eights and slow crawl riding as if I were in a parade. As my skill improved with this technique and my rear brake and clutch were showing signs of wear, I become very confident that I could handle my motorcycle in tight situations.

The benefits of practicing this riding technique are that you become more skilled with handling your motorcycle. If you find you are on a narrow country road, you will have the confidence to know that you can safely and skillfully perform a U-turn in the limited space provided. While attending motorcycle events where parking is at a premium, this slow speed practice will help you maneuver threw the crowded parking lot without smashing into and pedestrians or parked motorcycles. Again, I found myself using this skill set a lot. Other motorcyclists noticed my skill. They were amazed that I could maneuver a large Victory Kingpin in the limited spaces. Even when carrying a passenger. So dust off your motorcycle and dust of your stale riding techniques and hit the nearest vacant parking lot for some much needed practice.

Here are some tips for parking safely:

- If parking in a parallel parking space next to a curb, position the motorcycle at an angle with the rear wheel to the curb.

- If using the side stand, turn the handlebars to the left for added stability; lock the forks for security.

- The feet on sides and center stands can sink into soft surfaces causing the motorcycle to fall. To prevent this, carry a flattened aluminum can or similar rigid object to put under the stand.

- Park the motorcycle in first gear for extra stability, particularly if on an incline.

Motorcycle Helmets Safety Ratings-Who or What is Snell?

Article by Susan E. Curley

Who is Snell? In 1956, William “Peter” Snell was involved in an amateur auto racing accident and suffered massive head injuries. An ineffective helmet allowed the injuries to take place and caused his death. Out of this terrible tragedy, and in memory of his life, came the Snell Memorial Foundation (SMF). This non-profit foundation was originally formed in 1957 by racing colleagues and friends, as well as physicians and scientists showing expertise in head injuries. The intention of the Foundation was to create standards of effectiveness for helmets used in the auto racing industry. The Foundation issued its first safety standard for auto racing helmets in 1959. SMF later expanded its focus to include safety and effective performance standards for motorcycle helmets as well as helmets used in skiing, bicycling, in-line skating, skateboarding and even equestrian sports.

What is Snell? The standards set forth by the Foundation for motorcycle helmets are the most rigid and rigorous standards to date and are kept current through consistent updates. A Snell Certification is granted to a motorcycle helmet model only after a number of tests are passed to measure the effectiveness of performance as well as its ability to stay on the head in a variety of conditions, including wet and cold. SMF remains completely independent of the helmet manufacturers and government entities. Also, Snell Certifications are voluntary. Therefore, the motorcycle helmet manufacturer must submit to and pay for the testing of their products. Helmets that pass are labeled on the inside to show certification of the product. Additionally, a list of tested helmets is kept by the Foundation.

How is it Snell?Tests performed to determine Snell Certification eligibility include the following :Impact test–tests for g-force on impact (300g or less is the standard)Positional Stability or Roll-off Test–measures the ability of the helmet to shift but not roll off of the headDynamic Retention Test–tests for the maximum stretch of the chin strap in stressChin Bar Test–measures the side turning of the chin bar (applies to full face motorcycle, and special app/kart racing helmets)Shell Penetration Test–used to test the helmet’s ability to eliminate or limit penetration by a test striker dropped from a certain heightFace Shield Penetration Test–measures the shield’s ability to deflect a speeding pelletFlame Resistance Test–test used for special application racing helmets done with the use of a propane flame

Motorcycle Helmets – Certification Follow-upIn efforts to ensure a continued compliance with the standards by which the motorcycle helmets are tested, the Foundation follows up on previously certified helmets. This is accomplished through random purchasing of and testing on products stocked for sale to the public. This added testing helps to assure the consumer that the standards by which the motorcycle helmet’s effectiveness was originally measured are still being met. In the case of the test sample proving to not be in compliance with the original certification standards, corrective measures by the manufacturer to meet those standards may be imposed by the Foundation.

Statistically, wearing a motorcycle helmet is estimated to have been 37 percent effective in preventing fatal injuries to motorcycle riders and 41 percent for motorcycle passengers, in 2008. NHTSA estimated that, in this same year alone, the use of motorcycle helmets saved the lives of 1,829 motorcyclists. (Traffic safety facts: 2008 data) Furthermore, wearing a motorcycle helmet with the Snell Certification can help to assure the rider of the performance quality of the helmet they are wearing should an accident occur during its use. This particular certification does add cost to the process of manufacturing the helmet. Therefore, the ultimate price for the motorcycle helmet will be greater than some helmets that do not come with the Snell Certification. However, in the unfortunate event that your helmet’s effectiveness is put to the real test, it may just prove to be worth far more than the added price.

Wear Motorcycle Helmets? That’s A Good Question!

Article by Lonny Wolford

Motorcyclists are always evaluating the use of motorcycle helmets. Is this simply a matter of preference or are there significant issues to be considered?

A friend of mine (Bill) has chosen to ride with a helmet, or at times without a helmet. He says it depends upon riding conditions for him. One day he was on a two lane road, traveling about 50mph when a tractor trailer truck pulled out from the right side of the street to go the same direction. His thought was to maintain his speed and simply pass the truck. [Which, most likely could be done.] Unfortunately the truck driver did not have enough room for the turn, and stopped dead still, crossing both lanes. Bill was now approaching the truck too fast and too close to stop safely. He tried breaking hard but immediately knew he was facing the side of the trailer head-on. With quick thinking he laid his Harley on the side and slid under the trailer and on down the road a couple hundred feet. Relaying his story to me, he was flat on his back, feet first, with his arms spread out and his head bopping on the highway. When all was finished he gave credit to God for helping him and praised his destroyed helmet for saving his life. [Plus, the leather jacket and gloves that had taken the tears in place of him.] My friend only suffered from some sore muscles and hurt pride. But, it brings up the subject of helmet safety.

In the KSL-TV News of South Jordan, the Police Chief (Dan Pearson) is likewise teaching people that motorcycle helmets save lives, after losing three friends to motorcycle accidents in two years. All three suffered from head injuries and none were wearing motorcycle helmets. Then, the police chief himself was involved in an accident on highway 89 North of Afton, Wyoming. A truck towing a horse trailer had passed him and pulled in front of him, hitting the front of his motorcycle with the spare tire mounted on the back. Dan was thrown off his bike, landing headfirst. He says, “This injury would have been a fatal blow if I hadn’t had the helmet on.” Dan suffered from bruises and a few broken bones.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that motorcyclists survive a crash and receive less serious injuries when wearing a helmet. They report that at least 600 people are saved each year.

One question that is asked, “motorcycle helmets might protect your brain but can it increase your chances of a broken neck?” Dr. Michael Yorgason, a surgeon at Montana Orthopedics and Sport Medicine, states that the findings from medical literature shows: “autopsy studies done after fatal motorcycle accidents have shown that neck injuries and fractures are equally likely, whether you are wearing a helmet or not.” Yet, most medical reports support the use of motorcycle helmets. They believe that the helmet generally decreases the risk of head and brain injury significantly and surmise that wearing them does not increase your risk of neck injury.

An Italian study concluded that a helmet decreased injury by 66%. A Thailand study found that after making motorcycle helmets mandatory, head injuries decreased by 41% in 2 years. Now, in Kentucky, a study revealed that brain injury increased by 4.3 times when not wearing a helmet.

In an article written by Jonathan P. Goldstein, PhD., titled “The Effects of Motorcycle Helmet Use on the Probability of Fatality and the Severity of Head and Neck Injuries.” He concludes that there are a number of variables in a study that puts the study in question. Major differences are held concerning helmet use or non-helmet use. Normal results compare death and injury rates are two and three times greater for non-helmet riders and increases in occurrence rates in repeal years that vary from 19% to 63%. On one side: the helmet verses the non-helmet study fails to consider these two classes of riders. Stating that helmet riders are more cautious by nature. One, they drive slower, thus have slower speeds in crash situations. Two, they are less likely to have an accident. Three, helmet wearers are less likely to drink and drive (alcohol or use of drugs). These behavior changes dramatically reduce a riders risk.

On-the-other-hand, factors to consider are: 1-average age of the biker 2-average miles driven each year, per biker 3-average experience of the biker 4-the size of the motorcycle driven. So, between the size of the bike, potential speed, age, risk taking and alcohol ingestion; simply, cannot realistically prove the effectiveness of helmet use.

The Goldstein study did approach these variables in question. They reported a study that evaluates the effectiveness of motorcycle helmets in accident situations. The conclusions are: 1-Motorcycle helmets have no statistically significant effect on the probability of fatality. 2- Helmets reduce the severity of head injuries. 3-Past a critical impact speed of 13 mph, helmets increased the severity of neck injuries. The report then concluded that helmet users face a trade-off between reductions in the severity of head injuries and increases in the severity of neck injuries.

Under these circumstances a mandatory helmet use law cannot be reasoned to be an effective method to stop an individuals death or injury when involved in an accident.

Perhaps other choices need to be considered in providing safety in motorcycle use. Here are three suggestions. One, educate the general driving public (car and truck drivers) in road use with motorcycles. Two, educate inexperienced motorcyclists on accident avoidance (evasive action) and the proper use of these powerful machines. Three, create a strict enforcement of drunk driving laws.

[Some studies show that alcohol consumption is the major factor in deaths and injury.]

Harley-Davidson offers basic and advanced training to 200+ dealerships in 30 states. Honda has four training centers. BMW is considering advanced training but says they tend to attract seasoned riders.

It is believed that training cuts panic. You need to know how to negotiate a curve and resist the urge to brake, etc.

Here are some other factors that need to be considered. Tires should be inflated to the proper level. A riders visibility to be seen. Tests have shown that the plain white motorcycle helmets are the easiest to be seen. Clothing makes a difference between day/night.

For night riding there are reflective vests and lighted vests available. There is GLO GLOV; reflective tape for clothing and cycle; reflective vests and coats. Now back to helmets.

USA Today carried the statistic from the National Highway Traffic Saftey Administration, reporting that 24% of the fatal crashes in 2003 involved unlicensed motorcyclists, and that car drivers are responsible in about two-thirds of motorcycle fatalities.

US DOT findings discovered that following the Helmet Law Repeal in Texas and Arkansas from Aug/Sept of 1997 to May 1998, helmet use dropped to 52% in Arkansas and to 66% in Texas. In Arkansas motorcycle fatalities rose 21% following the repeal and head injuries increased 18.5%. Texas fatalities rose 31%.

One court case in California disputed what standards were set for qualifying a helmet as “safe”. For a list of the US Government “Compliance Testing of Motorcycle Helmets” you can check to see if your helmet passed or failed. Check with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

When I am on my motorcycle, I know what I am doing. I don’t know what the other driver is doing. So, with the many facets of helmet use and considering the pro/cons, I choose to wear a helmet. You will have to decide for yourself!

DOT Motorcycle Helmet Parts And Suzuki Windshields is Important

Article by Motorcycle Windshield

When you’re buying a helmet, it can be difficult to decide what helmet will give you the best protection for your money. Your head is the most important part of the body when it comes to protecting yourself on the road while riding. It doesn’t take much to split the skull or to impair the brain. At the very least a helmet will make the difference in low speed and low impact crashes. It is truly worth learning more about. One key to finding a safe helmet is to buy a helmet with DOT certification. http://www.idealhere.com/wholesale-Motoring_c1

DOT motorcycle helmet certification is indicated through a sticker, located on the back of the helmet. If the helmet that you’re interested in doesn’t have this sticker, don’t buy it. If you really wanted to you could buy it, but you are essentially playing with your own life. You have no idea if it will protect you in a crash. In fact chances are if it isn’t at a very minimum DOT certified, it will not protect you at all.

The DOT is the United States Department of Transportation. It is the body designated by the US Government to make sure that all vehicles are as safe as possible, and that all riders and passengers are safe within them. This is why their is a mandate requiring the wearing of seat belts in automotive vehicles and the wearing of helmets on motorcycles. This is a federal mandate, and depending on the state laws wearing a motorcycle helmet may or may not be required. It is however always a good idea, regardless of which state you live in and their helmet law.

What are the DOT motorcycle helmet certification standards? They require that a helmet which is deemed safe be able to absorb a large amount of energy upon impact, to prevent most helmetpenetration, and have a fastener which can withstand a lot of force. How does DOT motorcycle helmet testing work? It’s actually the manufacturer’s job to test the helmet. If they find that their helmet passes these standards, they can affix the sticker to the helmet.

You’re probably thinking about what happens if a manufacturer fudges the results a little. Periodically, the DOT will send helmets to independent labs for testing, and posts the results on their website. This type of periodic testing happens randomly and for lack of better words, keeps the helmet manufacturers honest. The last thing that the Department of Transportation wants are manufacturers of helmets lowering the quality and safety standards and then slapping a DOT sticker on a helmet. It is the random testing that ensures the quality and safety of the helmet. http://www.idealhere.com/wholesale-Windshield_c350

Before you buy, make sure to familiarize yourself with what the real DOT sticker looks like online. Some unscrupulous manufacturers will attach false stickers to their helmets in order to trick you into buying. DOT motorcycle helmet certification is an important safety tool for riders. This is a way to ensure that your helmet meets minimum safety standards, and will be able to protect you in a crash. So before you rush out and get a helmet, make sure it is at least DOT certified! This will raise the odds significantly in your favor for walking away from a wreck if you ever have one. Until then, ride safe!

Motorcycle Racing

Article by John W Daniele

Sports fans around the world know the excitement when it comes to motorcycle racing. The speed and action it delivers is nothing compared to some sports. And the danger it faces manes the reaction of the viewers that is much more heart-pounding than an extreme adrenaline rush. The audience simply gasps for amazement whenever racers take the course into a fact-paced racing. One thing that people can think about is an impending accident that might hinder the excitement of the whole race and turn it into tragedy. But how can the racers stay protected during motorcycle racing, you might ask?

As every motorcyclist knows, it is imperative to be protected with a head gear. It has obviously impacted anyone who has ever owned or dealt with a motorcycle because it is required by law that all motorcyclists and their passengers to wear helmets. Along with the costume or attire racers must wear, motorcycle racing helmets are always included. During a motorcycle racing, most often the racing helmets of each racer varies and matches to their attire. This can either be customized or bought to match the theme.

Motorcycle racing also brings out the variety of helmets available to racers and riders alike. KBC helmets and Arai helmets are two of the most popular racing helmets out there. Although KBC helmets and Arai helmets are mostly seen as motorcycle racing helmets, they also have other types of bike helmets available. These would include ventilation-specialized head gear that hinders wind noise, which can cause permanent hearing difficulties of a racer. This is specifically-designed to motor cross racers. Anti fog factors and noise-resistant head gears are always available for you to look into rather than its stylish design and striking colors.

There are some customized and specialized welding helmets that have been turned into racing helmets as well. Some of these welding helmets come in different styles and colors can come in a skull shape mask type or pig and more. With the innovation of the designs, it is not easy to see that these are welding helmets but used as motorcycle racing helmets. Durability is also an important factor here when choosing your own head gear, so be sure you choose the most durable helmet. To find out if a particular helmet provides the components you need for a race, ask the experts and head gear users. Moreover, do your homework and find out the best rated helmet out there that features only the most durable material.

So, if you plan to join a motorcycle racing competition, be sure to get yourself a durable helmet to fit not only your style but to improve safety when you are driving your motorcycle. You can start by looking at the options of KBC helmets or Arai helmets that are available at your local stores or online. If that does not work, you can always look at getting a helmet customized for your image just as long as your stay protected with your head gear. Remember that the most important thing is not about visual appeal but for you to ride on safely towards another race.

The History of Supercross Motorcycle Racing

Article by Owen Jones

The history of motorcycle racing can be traced back just about as far as when the first two motorcycles were sold. In those early days of motorcycle racing, people just raced along a stretch of road or along a beach; whatever was available really. In deed there were not many proper roads to speak about either, not in the modern sense of the word.

So people just made the best of dirt tracks. As time went on and the dirt clogged some engines, races were held on asphalt and real race tracks were created by business people. It is comical when you think about it, because the sport of motorcycle racing has almost turned full circle, in many regards.

All the styles of motorcycle racing that have existed are still being raced somewhere in the world. Flat track racing is still popular, but the riders and the producers and at the end of the day, the fans wanted more thrills and faster races, so supercross motorcycle racing came into existence.

Supercross motorcycle racing is off-road racing, but the off-road territory is man-made. This way ‘natural’ obstacles such as tight bends, small hills and even ponds can be put in, taken out and moved about at will in order to change the course. It has made motorcycle racing much more exhilarating, bringing cross country racing to the arena where it can be watched and filmed more easily.

The objective, as with all races, is to finish first, but with supercross racing, there are a lot of bikes in each race and the course is very demanding. So much so that it is a triumph even to reach the finishing line leave alone win the race.

Supercross motorcycle racing is really a variation of motorcross, although motorcross is held in the countryside. With supercross they have brought the countryside into the arena. Because of this, it is difficult to put an exact date on the origin of supercross. It just sort of evolved bit by bit.

Motorcross began to attract viewers in the Seventies, but crafty business people noticed that it was difficult to charge fans for standing on the roadside, which is why they brought supercross into the stadium. The first time the word Supercross was used was in the Los Angeles Coliseum, when a promoter said that that racing occasion was like a cross between motorcross and the Superbowl. The term supercross was coined and stuck.

Supercross motorcycle racing teams are similar in many ways to the NASCAR racing teams in that they are large teams that travel the country putting on shows or races in various stadia, often the very same ones that a NASCAR team has just left. However, amateur supercross also exists, albeit mostly only on a local level. Most, but certainly not all local supercross courses are in the open.

Often, these supercross races will be held either once a week or once a fortnight.. Television has increased the popularity of both professional and amateur supercross and has provided money to make the sport much more extravagant.
